Drug Name
Noroxin (Norfloxacin)
APPLICATION
Noroxin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is used for treating several bacterial infections. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
APPLICATION METHOD
Noroxin can be taken by mouth with or without food to avoid an upset stomach.
Take it for the entire duration of treatment preferably at the same time everyday (1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal). The ideal dosage for an adult is 800mg a day.
Do not stop without consulting your doctor. The best way to use the drug is as recommended by your doctor.
THE MECHANISM OF ACTION
Noroxin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic only deals with bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (for example, common cold, flu).
Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
MISSED DOSE
If you miss a dose of Noroxin then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
KEEPING
Store it at room temperature (between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in an air tight container protecting it from direct exposure to light, heat and moisture. Keep away from pets and children.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
Before using noroxin, inform your doctor whether you are allergic to it or to other quinolone antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin, gatifloxacin, gemifloxacin, levofloxacin, lomefloxacin, moxifloxacin or ofloxacin, or if you have any other allergies.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially whether you have:
- seizures, brain disorders (for example, cerebral arteriosclerosis, tumors, increased intracranial pressure), muscle disease / weakness (for example, myasthenia), heart problems (for example, cardiomyopathy, slow heart rate, torsades pirouette, QTc interval prolongation), kidney disease, mineral imbalance (for example, low potassium or magnesium), tendonitis / tendon problems.
Noroxin may cause drowsiness. These effects get aggravated if you take it with alcohol or certain other medications (sleep aids, muscle relaxers). So, do not drive or perform other potentially hazardous tasks until you know how your body reacts to the drug.

Do not use anti-diarrheal drugs or narcotic pain medications if you have the following symptoms, because these products can make them worse. Tell your doctor immediately if you have noticed: persistent diarrhea, stomach pain, cramping, blood / mucus in your stool.
